German language teaching methodology for secondary schools 4100-IIMDPNIEM
The programme is designed to be delivered over the course of one semester. The classes aim to equip students with the methodological skills required to conduct German language classes at the third level of education. The programme assumes that students will have mastered the skills necessary for planning the German language teaching process, selecting appropriate materials, teaching techniques, modes of presentation and control. It also assumes that students will have developed a variety of working techniques and an understanding of the different social forms of learning.
The following topics were covered: the characteristics of teaching at the third level of education, the process of individualisation, the digital adaptation of textbook materials, the utilisation of realia and the development of intercultural competence, the incorporation of project-based learning into curricula, the promotion of social forms of learning, bilingual teaching, the application of the LdL (Lernen durch Lehren) method, literary texts in German as a foreign language (GER) teaching, the use of art in language teaching, video materials.

Knowledge: the graduate knows and understands
S_W01 to an in-depth degree chosen facts, theories, institutions, processes,
and phenomena related to the field of studies teaching foreign languages:
which have practical application in teaching foreign languages at the third
educational stage and in adult and higher education
S_W02 essential terminology relating to: linguistics, literary studies, pedagogy
and education studies, psychology, history, culture and religion studies,
relevant to teaching foreign languages
S_W03 innovative ideas and techniques of integrated teaching of languages
and content subjects
Skills: the graduate is able to
S_U01 search, analyse, evaluate, select and use information, using a variety of
sources and methods, including advanced information and
communication techniques in German
S_U02 individually plan and implement, using also communication and
information techniques, typical and innovative projects connected with
teaching foreign languages in secondary schools, vocational and in other educational institutions involved in teaching foreign languages
S_U03 evaluate and conduct a critical analysis of the quality of foreign
language teaching and, optionally, the quality of teaching social studies;
diagnose the needs, abilities and potential of every learner, as well as
design and implement individually tailored teaching and educational
programs
S_U04 apply the assumptions and requirements of the core curriculum for
teaching German at the third educational stage
S_U05 perform educational tasks using digital tools, methods of remote
communication and various media
Social competences: the graduate is prepared to
S_K01 pursue lifelong learning
S_K02 critically reflect on the level of their skills and knowledge, constantly
develop professionally and personally, self-assess their competences,
improve their skills, plan their development and training, consult experts
in case of difficulties
Assessment criteria
In order to pass, candidates are required to achieve a mark of 60% or above in three distinct areas.
A written credit test on (stationary or platform) is required. A score of 40 points.
On the basis of the literature read, the student is required to list the elements of didactic sequences, define the components of the processes, explain the meaning of the terms, justify, propose and design didactic solutions, and illustrate the given theorems with examples.
- Production of original teaching materials/tasks on the platform (max. 30 points)
- Audit of class participation (max. 30 points)
Students who have attended all the lectures and completed all the requisite assignments are exempt from the oral examination and are awarded the maximum number of points.
A minimum of 50% of the available points must be earned in each range.
The final grade will be determined according to the following criteria:
Below 60 - 2.0
60-68 - 3.0
69-78 - 3.5
79-88 - 4.0
89-96 - 4.5
Above 97 - 5.0
In the event that a student was unable to attend class or was unprepared, they will have the opportunity to pass the topic orally during the designated duty period.
