Virtual exchange: project work 4100-IIIMWWP
The aim of the course is to develop the students' intercultural competence, their skills in using information and communication technologies to plan and organize project work, as well as their creativity and critical thinking.
The classes are conducted in English. However, the students can prepare materials in English, German, French or Polish as part of their projects.
The course is learner-led and project-based. Throughout the course students work at their own pace in small project groups. The groups need to complete their intercultural projects by the end of the semester.
During introductory online meetings, which take place at the beginning of the semester, students become familiar with concepts such as E.T. Hall's division of cultures into high-context and low-context cultures or the theory of dimensions of national cultures created by Geert Hofstede.
Project
Students work in groups of 4-5 to carry out projects on different aspects of culture or education in their chosen countries/regions or smaller communities.
The projects on education can focus on the systems of formal education in students' chosen countries or regions and can examine the similarities and differences between them. The projects can also focus on, for example, the everyday lives of pupils or teachers from a given country/region/community.
In the projects on culture the students compare the cultures of their chosen countries/regions or smaller communities. The projects can, for example, concentrate on the similarities and differences between cultures as far as rules of politeness or nonverbal communication are concerned.
At the end of the semester students' projects are posted on the Moodle platform in a space especially created for the 'Virtual exchange - project' course.
The students' projects can take different forms:
- presentations,
- films and/or audio recordings of interviews conducted by the students with teachers and/or students about education,
- films and/or audio recordings of interviews conducted by the students with inhabitants of a given country/region about culture,
- films on culture/education available on YouTube and made into an interactive film by the students,
- didactic materials and lesson plans aimed at secondary school students or adults, etc.
While working on their projects the students will be using different websites and applications, they can also make use of the H5P tools to create interactive materials on the Moodle platform.
Each project should be accompanied by a commentary in which the project group will express opinions and reflections on the materials they have created.
The projects will include two types of materials: output which will be posted on the Moodle platform in the form of resources (e.g. files, labels, etc.) and interactive materials (e.g. quizzes, interactive videos, etc.).
