Full description:
The aim of the course is to
acquaint students with
cultural issues of German-
speaking countries and to
develop their ability to
interpret cultural
phenomena. Cultural studies
is an interdisciplinary
subject. The course content
should therefore include
broadly understood culture:
politics, history,
architecture, music,
sculpture, painting, fashion,
geography, public holidays
and ceremonies, festivals,
customs, film, literature,
system of education,
economy, and
environmental protection.
The classes are aimed at
organizing students;
knowledge in this area and
preparing them to
autonomously design work
with students during a
German language lesson,
with a focus on culture. An important
issue will be to
discuss the criteria for
selecting materials and the
types of exercises that can
be offered to foreign
language learners in order to
develop language skills and
cultural competence.

Assessment criteria
Assessment methods and
assessment criteria:
1. In order to pass the course
you need to:a) prepare for classes
(preparing short statements,
collecting information);
b) actively participate in
discussion, work in groups
and pairs;
c) prepare a portfolio with
your own project related to
the topic discussed;
All elements are assessed as
points.
2. Methods of assessing
student’s work:
– continuous assessment
(ongoing preparation for
exercises): 40% of the final
grade,
– portfolio: 40% of the final
grade,
– group projects: 20% of the
final grade
3. All activities are assessed as
points. Their scale is
always communicated to
students. At the end of the
semester, the points are
converted into the final
grade.
4. Students' activity is
assessed according to the
following criteria: content,
ability to work in a group,
feedback.
5. The method of verifying
learning outcomes may
change before the start of
the course due to the
possibility of participants’
using tools related to
artificial intelligence. The
changes will be announced
to students at the beginning
of the winter semester
2024/25.
6. Attendance is obligatory. The allowed number of absences is 2.
