Listening Comprehension
reception of audio materials accompanying the textbook Kontext B1+ Express as well as authentic materials (interviews, reports, radio programs, podcasts),
identifying the situational context, main ideas of the text and the speaker’s intention,
selecting relevant information from longer recordings (3–5 minutes).
Reading Comprehension
working with authentic texts (newspaper articles, literary excerpts, announcements, reports),
developing skills in global, selective and intensive reading,
analyzing logical connectors and text structure,
developing lexical and grammatical competence in reading.
Speaking
formulating questions and precise answers in discussions,
giving an oral presentation of a text or topic with commentary,
arguing one’s point of view in academic and social contexts.
Writing
practicing different types of texts: notes, CV, formal and informal letters, summaries, reviews, essays,
using appropriate syntactic structures and cohesive devices,
producing longer argumentative and academic texts.

Upon completing the course, the student should be able to participate in discourse at an academic level and possess competencies related to conducting such discourse broadly in both speech and writing. To this end, the course provides integrated training in all language competencies: speaking, writing, reading, and listening, concurrently throughout the semester. The student, upon completing the course, should understand a wide range of difficult, longer, and complicated texts, including specialist, scientific, and literary texts. They should be able to express themselves using complex formulations, construct statements regarding complex issues, summarize information from written or spoken sources coherently, reproducing the theses contained within them. |

Assessment criteria
Course Requirements
class attendance (a maximum of two absences per semester is allowed),
timely submission of written and oral assignments,
active participation in classes,
passing the semester tests and the oral performance.
Assessment Methods
oral performance (presentation or commentary on a text),
semester tests (grammar, vocabulary, listening, reading, writing).
Grading Scale
60–68% – satisfactory
69–76% – satisfactory plus
77–84% – good
85–92% – good plus
93–100% – very good
Note: At the end of the semester, a semester test is conducted, covering the four language skills (listening, reading, writing, vocabulary) as well as the material practiced in class.
