English grammar for teachers 4100-2SGADNO
The aim of the course is to systematise and deepen the students’ knowledge of English grammar and its usage.
Objectives:
- to familiarize students with the grammatical terminology used in describing English grammar
- to improve their grammatical accuracy
- to teach the students the skills of grammaticality judgement and error recognition
- to guide the students to discover and formulate rules of English grammar
- to develop students’ cognitive interests and to support their intellectual development by means of enriching their knowledge
- to help the students to nocie and avoid the interference of Polish structures and lexis while using English
- to enable the students to use academic knowledge to obtain the practical skills necessary in a profession of a teacher of a foreign language at the first and second stage of education, including teaching the grammar and lexis of English

Semester 1:
1. Tenses in English
2. Conditional clauses in English
Semester 2
1. English modal auxiliaries:
- formal features of auxiliary verbs and of modal auxiliaries
- deontic and epistemic modality
-similarities and differences in the use of modal verbs
2. Verb complementation - the infinitive and the gerund.

K_W01 - the graduate knows and understands to an advanced degree selected facts, theories, processes and phenomena related to the study areas: linguistics, especially the rules concerning the form and function of tenses as well as the use of conditional clauses in English, relevant to the field of studies - teaching foreign languages, which have practical application in teaching foreign languages in kindergartens and at the first educational stage (S_W01)
K_W02 - the graduate knows and understands essential terminology related to linguistics (especially grammatical terms connected with tenses and conditionals), relevant to teaching foreign languages (S_W02)
K_W16 - the graduate knows and understands to a significant extent the process of interpersonal communication in Polish and English, their regularities and irregularities (S_W16)

K_U01 - the graduate is able to search, analyse, evaluate, select and use information concerning English grammar using a variety of sources and methods in Polish and English (S_U01)
K_U02 - the graduate is able to independently plan and implement typical projects related to teaching English grammar in kindergartens, primary schools and in other institutions related to teaching foreign languages (S_U02)
K_U03 - the graduate is able to diagnose the needs, abilities and aptitudes of every learner as well as design and implement individually tailored programs of teaching English grammar (S_U03)

Assessment criteria
The student passes the course on the basis of:
1. participation in the class - the limit of absences without justification is 2
2. preparation and active participation in classes run in the classroom and online asynchronously
3. doing written and oral tasks during classes and on the Kampus UW platform, following the instruction provided and on time
4. passing the final test, the passmark is 60%
Checking students' knowledge of the material taught on the Kampus platform is carried out by means of asking questions orally, short quizzes and checking student's tests on the platform.
