The course provides an overview of the European Union in its historical, social, cultural, and political dimensions. It focuses on key contemporary challenges such as ecological transformation, the digital revolution, artificial intelligence, and social change, with particular attention to their impact on politics and education in Europe. The course involves 15 hours of lectures and 15 hours of independent study (1 ECTS).

The student is able to identify and describe fundamental social and educational dilemmas related to the green transition, sustainable development, the digital revolution, and the development of artificial intelligence in the European context (K_W13).
The student critically evaluates knowledge and content related to the challenges facing the European Union (K_K01).
The student recognizes the importance of knowledge in analyzing cognitive problems concerning the challenges of the European Union and seeks expert opinions in cases of interpretative difficulty (K_K02).

The course ends with a graded pass, based on the results obtained in the following components:
Written exam (knowledge test) at the end of the course: multiple-choice questions assessing familiarity with key EU concepts and documents, as well as understanding of fundamental social and educational dilemmas related to the green transition, sustainable development, the digital revolution, and AI (verifies K_W13).
Class participation:
– short answers to problem-based questions, participation in case study analysis, reflections during mini-discussions.
→ verifies current attitudes related to K_K01 and K_K02.
Final discussion:
– a moderated group conversation in which the student argues and justifies their position, and demonstrates the ability to recognize the need for expert opinions in problem situations (verifies K_K01 and K_K02).
Permitted absence: maximum of 1 class (1 × 90 minutes).
The use of AI tools and language processing technologies is permitted only with the instructor’s prior approval and agreement on the scope of their use. Using such tools without consent will be treated as a violation of academic integrity, resulting in the work being considered non-independent and graded as a fail.
Methods and Criteria of Assessment
Written exam (knowledge test).
Form: written test (multiple-choice questions).
Scope: key EU concepts and documents; analysis of fundamental social and educational dilemmas related to the green transition, sustainable development, the digital revolution, and AI.
Verified learning outcomes: K_W13.
Assessment criteria: max. 60 points. Minimum pass threshold: 60% of total points.
Class participation.
Form: short answers to problem-based questions, participation in case study analysis, reflections during mini-discussions.
Verified learning outcomes: K_K01, K_K02.
Assessment criteria: max. 20 points
Quality and accuracy of answers to problem-based questions – 0–8 pts
Ability to analyze and interpret case studies – 0–6 pts
Reflections and participation in mini-discussions – 0–6 pts
(total: 20 points)
Final discussion.
Form: moderated group conversation.
Student’s task: to argue their position, justify their statements, and demonstrate the ability to recognize the need for expert opinions in problem situations.

Substantive value and accuracy of statements – 0–10 pts
Ability to critically evaluate and formulate conclusions – 0–5 pts
Discussion etiquette and ability to cooperate – 0–5 pts

91–100% – very good (5.0)
81–90% – good plus (4.5)
71–80% – good (4.0)
66–70% – satisfactory plus (3.5)
60–65% – satisfactory (3.0)
< 60% – fail (2.0)
Minimum requirement for passing the course: at least 60% in each of the three components (written exam, class participation, and final discussion).
