Climate Modelling Outline 4030-ZMKII
Introduction to climate modeling issues, historical outline, spatial and temporal scales, observations of changes in various environmental parameters, climate models, hierarchy of models from global to local, climate projections: current and future assuming different emission scenarios, reanalyses and climate analyzes, interpretation and analysis model results, model evaluation and comparison, application of climate scenarios in research on the impact of climate change on the environment.
The student's workload includes participation in the lecture (8 hours), exercises (7 hours), as well as their own work - performing the tasks carried out during the classes and preparing to pass the lecture.

Learning outcomes
Knowledge: the graduate knows and understands
- definition of the climate system with its various components;
- methods and techniques used in climate modeling;
- what is a climate model and what are the types and scales of climate models;
- causes of uncertainty in climate modeling.
Skills: the graduate can
- use the correct terminology
- find, read and analyze available climate scenarios;
- explain the problems related to the interpretation of the results of climate simulations, can indicate the uncertainties that affect climate projections;
Personal and social competences: the graduate is ready to
- realize the importance of modeling in the study of climate processes;
- understand and critically evaluate the modeling results;
- understand the essence of the introduced assumptions and their consequences for the modeling results.
Assessment criteria
The final grade for the subject is the weighted average of the final grade for the lecture (weight 50%) and the final grade for the exercises (weight 50%). A one-time improvement in the final score is allowed.
Completing the exercises is a prerequisite for allowing a student to attend the lecture exam.
Practical placement
none
