The Principles of Ecosystem Services Assessment 4030-PoESA
This workshop-type course is designed to familiarise students with the concept of ecosystem services and how to carry out assessments of different types of ecosystem services. It covers the conceptual underpinnings of the issue, with particular emphasis on the relationship between ecological and social aspects, and learning how to practically plan the assessment process for a selected ecosystem service.

Learning outcomes
The student knows and understands:
- the meaning of the terms ecosystem services, socio-economic system, landscape (K_W02, K_W03, K-W05)
- the importance of considering the natural component in spatial management (K_W06, K_W07)
The student is able to:
- identify the importance of different landscape components for the delivery of different types of ecosystem services. (K_U06, K_U07)
- design a study to identify the potential, supply and demand for ecosystem services (K_U01, K_U02, K_U05)
The student is prepared for:
- actively work towards the implementation of methods for the assessment of ecosystem services in the practice of sustainable spatial management (K_K01, K_K03, K_K05)
Assessment criteria
Credit based on quality of the presented project (70%) and activity during classes (30%).
