Indicators of Sustainable Development 4030-ISD
The core element of the course is a comprehensive presentation of diverse sustainability indicators: aggregated indicators, structural indicators, and indicators at the local level. In particular, selected single-number indicators, country specific and EU structural indicators, and indicators for small communities are presented and discussed. Specific lectures are devoted to: measurement techniques, criticism on traditional measures of development, methods of economic valuation of non-market environmental goods and services. Research component includes evaluation and assessment of selected footprint indicators.

Student knows how difficult it is to measure sustainability. Student understands the most popular and recommended sustainability indicators. Student is able to interpret indicators and knows their pros and cons. Student can calculate some simple examples of footprint indicators.
