(in Polish) Argumentacja i retoryka w sprawach zwierząt 4030-ARwSZ
The basic premise of the seminar is a functional approach to language as a tool for ongoing communication with others in various social situations. The course aims to develop a critical understanding of persuasive statements by recognizing the persuasive and manipulative techniques used, while also developing the ability to creatively prepare various types of well-constructed, persuasive, and linguistically accurate statements regarding the needs and protection of animals. This will be achieved by learning tools for working with texts, understanding the principles of rhetorical technique, and acquiring the most important principles and practical skills in the art of writing. A key element of the course will be practical exercises involving the analysis and commentary of specific textual forms, such as scientific articles, journalistic texts, podcasts, films, public speeches, speeches, and slogans. The scope and depth of discussion of issues related to the theoretical discussion of tools in rhetoric, argumentation, persuasion, manipulation, and so on, will depend on the needs of the seminar participants.

Knowledge: The graduate knows and understands

Assessment criteria
The basis for receiving credit for the course is:
a) attendance (students are allowed two absences per semester),
b) active participation in classes,
c) ongoing completion of class-related tasks,
d) presentation of a project work (analysis and discussion of specific materials or writing and presenting a specific statement).
Criteria for project work assessment (various configurations depending on the project type):
a) the ability to critically and analytically approach the underlying materials,
b) correct recognition or use of linguistic tools and devices,
c) analytical and interpretative accuracy,
d) rhetorical and linguistic accuracy,
e) ability to present the developed project.
