Introduction to history, literature and culture of Cyprus 4018-WYK46
The lectures will present an overview of Cyprus as an island and a country - its geography, history, culture (with a special focus on literature), and society. The aim is to provide students with comprehensive information on the special features of Cyprus in all aspects. One important section will present Cyprus as part of the “Greek world”, a country and society with many similarities to Greece, but also differing from it in many things.
The lectures are important in view of the approaching European Union presidency by a triad to which both Poland and Cyprus belong.
The lectures are also a part of an academic project financed by the Ministry of Science and Higher Education, called “Cyprus: History, Culture, Literature”, which was launched at the Hellenic Studies unit in the first half of 2010.
