Wymysiöeryś language - beginner level 4018-CW9-CLASS
This course covers the basics of Wymysiöeryś (wilamowski). Wymysiöeryś is a severely endangered Germanic language, which is only spoken in the town of Wilamowice. Before the Second World War, it was the basic tool of communication for the inhabitants of Wilamowice. During the Communist period, the use of Wymysiöeryś was prohibited. This led to a sharp decrease in the number of native speakers of the language. Thanks to an initiative undertaken by the local community and supported by the „Artes Liberales” Faculty, the sociolinguistic situation of Wymysiöeryś is now improving. There are two basic dialects of Wymysiöeryś, but students will mostly be taught the standard one. However, they will also get acquainted with some elements of Wymysiöeryś dialectology. The best students might get the opportunity to participate in the research project on Wilamowicean language and culture.
The aim of this course is to gain a basic knowledge of Wymysiöeryś. In order to achieve this goal, the following activities and exercises will be used:
• analysis of recordings
