Introduction to Feminist Philosophy 3800-WFF23-S

It is an introductory seminar into the extremely rich subject matter of feminist philosophy. We will deal with its propaedeutics, i.e. various basic fields of philosophy (identity theory, epistemology, ethics, political philosophy, ecology) seen from the feminist perspective. This is not a uniform perspective, but a complex one, encompassing many different positions. We will start with a lecture on the history of women in the public sphere. Then we will deal with the issues of identity, body and gender (we will read excerpts from books by S.de Beauvoir and J.Butler, E. Grosz, L. Irygaray), then: epistemological issues (we will read L.M. Alcoff, S. Bordo, D. Haraway, A. Dera); in the next classes we will deal with ethical topics (related to the ethics of care), then political and social philosophy and ecology (ecofeminism).
