Ontology 3800-ONT-DON-ZK
LECTURE
The general aim of the course is to provide students with an introduction to some major topics in the area of contemporary analytic ontology. In the course the following issues will be analysed and discussed: the problem of existence and ontological commitments of language, numerical and qualitative identity, the identity criteria, the debate over universals, sets and abstract objects, theories of concrete particulars, possible objects and possible worlds, events, ontology of space and time, persistence through time, material constitution, theories of causation, ontology of mind and personal identity.
TUTORIAL
The tutorial is a necessary complement to the lecture in ontology. In the course of subsequent sessions the texts of contemporary Polish and Anglo-Saxon metaphysicians will be reconstructed and analysed. During the classes emphasis will be put on a careful reconstruction and detailed logical analysis of both the most fundamental ontological concepts (a reductive or connective analysis) and various metaphysical doctrines (an argumentative analysis).
