English to Polish Translation Class 3800-A124-T
The aim of the course is to provide the participants with the skills required for translating philosophical texts from French into Polish. During each meeting we are going to discuss a translation (prepared beforehand) of a small fragment of a chosen text. This shall enable students to improve their translation skills, i.e. to learn to identify philosophical concepts used by an author and find their Polish equivalents, as well as to avoid basic mistakes (like calques), to stay (in suitable proportions) true to both the spirit and the letter of the translated text, and – last but not least – to write philosophical texts (in Polish) that respect the rules of correctness and the requirements of style.
