(in Polish) Political Philosophy of Migration 3700-MSNS-PPM-ALL
This course introduces students to philosophical and political approaches to understanding migration, emphasizing its social and cultural dimensions. By engaging with foundational methods and concepts of political philosophy, students develop the ability to critically and independently analyze migration-related issues. The course also builds competencies in identifying, researching, and formulating responses to complex challenges surrounding actual case studies of migration.
Four such cases are introduced during the course: The European migration crisis of 2015, Current US migration politics, the Polish-Belorussian border crisis and the Polish approach to immigrants from Ukraine after the Russian aggression of 2022. Three meetings of the course are devoted to each case, each meeting focusing on one philosophical texts relating to the case. Philosophical topics analysed during the meetings include hospitality; the relationship between democratic theory and migration; and theoretical tensions between the principle of popular sovereignty and minority cultures.
