Spain. Name and Idea Through the Centuries 3700-KSM-HNI-ES
Seminar on history of Spain from pre-historic times till contemporaneousness. Main stress will be laid on term “Spain”, its evolution through the centuries and the actual situation.
The aim of the seminar on history of Spain is not only a highlight of most important issues related to the past of this Iberian country, but also a deep analysis of events and historical, cultural and social processes and political movements, which - as it occurred with time - influenced in change of the meaning of term “Spain”.
The seminar will be realized in a chronological-subject scheme, in the framework of twelve main parts.
Subject 1: First inhabitants of the Iberian Peninsula
Subject 2: Romanisation of the Iberian Peninsula (III century B.C. – V A.D.)
Subject 3: Visigothian Spain and beginnings of feudalism (6-8th centuries)
Subject 4: Al-Andalus. Christian kingdoms (8-14th centuries)
Subject 5: Spanish dynastic union: Catholic Kings (1474-1516)
Subject 6: Birth and fall of the Empire (16-17th centuries)
Subject 7: A new dynasty: Bourbons in Spain (18th century)
Subject 8: Spanish War of Independence. “Nation under arms” (1808-1814)
Subject 9: Constitutional unity of the monarchy
Subject 10: Creation of a liberal state (1843-1868) and of a democratic Spain (1868-1874)
Subject 11: Nationalisms and meaning of term „Spain” in 20th century
Subject 12: History of Spain from current perspective. Social changes and challenges.
