Modern Greek literature of the 20th century 3700-FN-L3-LITGR
The texts are analyzed in such contexts as: Greek and European history, history of literature, changes in Modern Greek language, authors’ biographies, as well as using the terms of comparative literature, gender and cultural studies.
The first semester will cover the period from the Greek Enlightenment to the 1st half of the 20th century. In the second semester, the course will concern the works of the 2nd half of the 20th century as well as the most recent Greek literary production.
60 hours of classes will be run in the 1st semester by Ewa Janion, 30 hours in the 2nd semestr by Przemysław Kordos.

Learning outcomes
In terms of knowledge, students will:
• know basic terminology of literary studies
• have basic acquaintance with contemporary theories of literature and benefit from them to analyze and interpret literary works
• distinguish and name the most important genres of Greek literature
• distinguish literary epochs, movements, and currents, be able to describe Greek literary legacy
• be familiar with contemporary Greek cultural life
In terms of skills, students will:
• find, select and evaluate information from different sources considering the copyrights
• use properly dictionaries, grammar reference books and other materials
• present in Polish or Greek, verbally or in writing, simple research questions, with the use of different sources and bibliography
• be able to argue, polemize and draw conclusions in a logical and coherent way
• write typical academic papers, using varied sources
• read, analyze and interpret Greek literature (prose, poetry, drama) and Greek scholarly texts
• write longer texts in contemporary Greek (composition, letter, review, summary etc.)
• benefit from their knowledge to understand better Greek literature and culture
In terms of social competence, students will:
• be aware of the limited extent of their own knowledge and skills
• understand the need for continual education and upgrading of professional competence, especially by improving language skills; flexibly define the directions of their own development
• appreciate the meaning of Greek heritage in Polish and European culture and find themselves responsible for its maintenance
• be able to cooperate in a team, assuming different roles, present the results of team work in a speech.
