Latin - intermediate group 3700-CS1-2-LAC1
The course is designed to prepare students to understand simple Latin texts of classical authors, to show great influence of Latin on contemporary languages, and to broaden knowledge about history and culture of ancient Greece and Rome. It is the second of the three stages of basic learning of Latin.
I. During the course, the student deepens knowledge of Latin inflection and syntax and develops the vocabulary needed for further linguistic studies, as well as extends knowledge about history and culture of ancient Greece and Rome.
II. Grammar course includes:
- repetition of basic grammar,
- supinum, participium perfecti passivi, participium futuri activi,
- indicativus perfecti, plusquamperfecti, futuri II passivi, infinitivus perfecti passivi, futuri activi and passivi,
- coniunctivus of all tenses and voices,
- ACI (perfectum passivi, futurum activi i passivi),
- coniugatio periphrastica passiva,
- coniugatio periphrastica activa,
- NCI for all tenses and voices,
- functions of cases,
- pronouns (demonstrative cont., indefinite), pronominal adjectives,
- syntax of clauses of purpose, of object, interrogative sentences,
- syntax of city names,
- geographical names,
- reading of Latin texts adapted to the level of students.

Learning outcomes
Student w zakresie wiedzy:
- has a basic knowledge of the place of Latin among Indo-European languages and the importance of Latin for development of modern languages and contemporary science,
- knows Latin grammar at intermediate level,
- has deep knowledge of structures and vocabulary of ancient Latin;
Student w zakresie umiejętności:
- skilfully uses dictionaries, grammars and various auxiliary materials,
- can translate simple original texts from Latin into Polish or English,
- performs a comparative analysis of selected grammatical phenomena of Latin and Polish or English,
- can create any grammatical form of a word using a dictionary;
Student w zakresie kompetencji społecznych:
- is aware of limitations of own knowledge and skills,
- understands the need for continuous education and improvement of professional competences, especially in deepening of linguistic proficiency; flexibly determines directions of own development,
- can work in a group.
Assessment criteria
The final grade is influenced by attendance, grades from partial work, grades from semester tests and class participation.
