Functional Polish Language Workshops 3700-AL-WPU-qHT
The basic assumption of the workshop is a functional approach to language as a tool for constant communication with others. We will look at the diversity of the Polish language and consider the actual need to standardize its varieties. Therefore, an important element of the course will be familiarization with the basic issues of language culture. Together, we will consider the state of contemporary Polish, with particular emphasis on development trends.
The most important, however, will be practical exercises in standard (normative) Polish, used in official communication. The more perfect the language is, the better we can use it and the easier it will be to achieve the intended communication goal. That is why it is important to know the possibilities and limitations of this tool in order to eliminate errors and master the ability to construct coherent statements and texts. Practical classes will consist in mastering the ability to use appropriate normative sources to work with the text. These skills will then be used when writing, editing and proofreading their own texts, which will be subject to normative assessment.
The scope and degree of detail in discussing the issues of spelling, punctuation, inflection, syntactic, lexical, syntagmatic, phraseological and stylistic correctness will depend on the needs of the workshop participants.
The first 30 hours of classes are devoted to the activities of the whole group. Theoretical topics are then discussed and exercises related to particular normative issues are performed. The remaining 15 hours are devoted to students' own work on their texts and stationary consultations in smaller groups devoted to discussing individual works.

Assessment criteria
The basis for passing the course is:
a) attendance at classes (the student has the right to two absences in a semester),
b) active participation in classes,
c) performing all tasks related to classes on an ongoing basis,
d) writing and editing a short utility text on one of the selected language issues,
e) individual consultations with the lecturer about your own text.
Work evaluation criteria:
a) linguistic correctness of the utterance
b) the accuracy of the choice of topic,
c) the ability to critically and analytically approach language material.
