The Ritual Year in Turkey in the 21st Century – Genesis, Course and Socio-political Conditions 3600-ROTXXIW-OW
Turkish Culture of contemporary Turkey driver from many different traditions of different religious and ethnic groups. Today Turkish and Muslim (Sunni) element dominate, but still elements of the culture of other groups may be noticed. The calendar of year cycle rituals as well as the way of celebrations were actively created and transformed throughout the 20th and 21st century. Especially today these changes may be analysed as a part of social engineering policy of authorities of contemporary Turkey.
The main purpose of the class is to present students the basic issues of the traditional culture of the contemporary Turkey and peoples living in the area, in the context of the rites and celebrations of the year cycle. Particular attention will be devoted to how the rituals and habits are shaped by the state institutions and their social policy.

3. The official, state and political celebrations and holidays – its emotional and political background
4. Spring – Nevruz and Ergenekon, 23.04, 1.05, 19.05.
5. Spring of Muslim religious celebrations – the month of Ramazan and Ramazan Holiday
6. Summer – şenliks.
7. Summer state and religious celebrations – the Kurban Holiday, 15.07
8. Summer and autumn 2021 and 2022 – Muharrem and Aşure
9. Autumn – the official celebrations 30.08, , 29.10, 10.11.
10. Winter – the end and the beginning.
11. The ritual rhythm of human life – birth, marriage, death
12. Conclusions – the private and public ritual live of Turks.
