Japanese language translation techniques 3600-JA-TPJJ-OW
The classes provide knowledge and skills in the Japanese language and translation theory and practice as well as simultaneous and consecutive interpretation skills. The syllabus covers the basics of translation theory and the grammar and usage of Japanese and develops competence in the translation of various types of spoken and written texts. Translation workshops will be conducted by experienced translators (Anna Omi and Anna Pindur Okazaki).

Knowledge:

- is aware of the complex nature of the Japanese language, its place, and importance in the context of the culture and history of Japan. P6S_WK
- has a basic knowledge of the rules of translating from Japanese into Polish P6S_WG
- knows and understands the basic concepts and principles of intellectual property and copyright protection P6S_WG
Skills:
- can read, analyze and interpret literary texts and/or other works of cultural creativity in Japan (film, press, social writing) correctly placing them in the cultural context P6S_UW
- knows how to compare and see the relationships between selected literary texts and/or other works of cultural creativity (film, press, social writing) and the issues of tradition and the present P6S_UK
-can analyze and interpret Japanese source texts P6S_UK
- can translate literary texts/writings from Japanese into Polish P6S_UK
- can interpret the key concepts of Japanese culture through linguistic/philological analysis P6S_UW
- can use the Japanese writing system and the tools for learning and analyzing it (traditional and electronic dictionaries, lexicons, language corpora, databases, etc.) P6S_UW
- can use electronic and internet tools in Polish and Japanese P6S_UK
Social competence:
- can cooperate and work in a group as well as establish contacts and build social relations P6S_KO
- can establish contacts and interact with representatives of different cultures P6S_KK
- is aware of the importance of Japanese culture in the world culture P6S_KO
Assessment criteria
Presence at classes is required. Participation in the classes as well as the preparation of three written works related to the issues of literary translation and consecutive translation.
