Israel in Film. Introduction to Israeli Cinema 3600-HE-KFI-OW
The course covers a subjective selection of Israeli movies from the the establishment of the state until today, devoted to the most important social-cultural issues, with special attention to major genres and personalities of Israeli cinema. The social-cultural issues will inlclude ethnic and religious diversity of the ISraeli society, the Arab-Israeli conflict, war and peace, terrorism, politics, the status of women and LGBT persons in religious communities, etc. The starting point is the history of ISraeli cinema, with refernces to ISraeli and Jewish history.
Since the movies will be screened in their original language, the course also strongly supports the developments of the students' language competence, with special attention given to listening, speaking and writing skills, as well as development of vocabulary usually not covered by traditional language courses (slang, colloquial language, jargons, etc.).
