Culture of the Ancient East 3600-7-WS4-KWS1(Z)
Specialist classes deepening knowledge in the field of literature, history, politics, religion, economy or other issues of the Ancient East. The seminar allows students to conduct research in connection with the main topic of the classes, shows the possibilities of research work, use of available sources and their possible interpretations. Preparation for classes will be partially carried out in groups. The main (semester) topic is chosen by the teacher.

Learning outcomes
After completing the course, the student:
- has in-depth knowledge of selected issues of the culture of the Ancient East (in the field of culture and literature or language or religion or history and socio-political issues);
- knows advanced methods of analysis, interpretation and evaluation of various products of the culture of the Ancient East appropriate for selected traditions, theories and research schools in the field of linguistics or literary studies and cultural studies or religious studies or history;
- knows the native scientific tradition (methods of analysis, interpretation and evaluation) applied to the region of the Ancient East;
- has extensive, in-depth knowledge of the structures and social relations and socio-cultural behaviors of the region of the Ancient East;
- knows the basic principles of creating and developing research projects concerning the culture of the Ancient East;
- is able to search, analyze, evaluate and use information from various sources and formulate critical judgments based on them;
- is able to independently acquire knowledge and expand research skills;
- is able to conduct a critical analysis and interpretation of various products of the culture of the Ancient East in a manner appropriate to selected traditions, theories and research schools in the field of linguistics or literary and cultural studies or religious studies or history, using original approaches that take into account knowledge from the field of Oriental studies;
- is able to analyze the most important phenomena in the field of the history/socio-political/linguistic/cultural situation of the Ancient East;
- is able to demonstrate advanced knowledge of the Hittite language and other languages of Asia Minor or Akkadian and Sumerian languages;
- is proficient in using advanced electronic and Internet tools in Polish and modern foreign languages;
- is able to cooperate with others in teamwork;
- understands ethical issues and responsibility related to the transfer of knowledge about the selected region;
- sees the need to enrich their tradition with positive philosophical, socio-cultural values of the Ancient East.
Assessment criteria
Grading based on student activity during classes.
