Archaeology of the (Ancient) Near East 3600-7-WS2-AWSć(Z)
The classes should introduce the participants to individual study of archaeological evidence - in the context of discovery, facilitation (publishing), exhibiting (museum collections). Special stress shall be put on artifacts-"text carriers" (tablets, boards, foundation figurines, prisms/cylinders, inscribed statues, inscriptions in archtectural contexts), and the possibility to connect historical narratives (based on written evidence) illustrated with iconography and supplemented by archaeological finds. Geographical and chronological scope - as indicated in the description of the lecture.

Learning outcomes
Results: Getting acquainted within the corpus of archaeological publications - types, categories, scopes and coverage. Ability to carry out an adequate research/querenda for a chosen subject-matter. Understanding relations/dependences in categories of finds, coordinating archaeological evidence of different/subsequent levels (specific artifacts - assemblages, and sites) and historical narratives.
Assessment criteria
Evaluated shall be: class activity (discussion, remarks, criticism; n.b. - frequenting is OBLIGATORY), pronouncements/performances, for individually chosen themes, possibly a final colloquium after every/both semesters.
Bibliography
Basic - as indicated for the lecture; besides: editorial series and journals reporting progress in archaeological researches (preliminary and final reports), studies on groups/categories of antiquities, overview compilations - to be presented and discussed in class, as chosen by the participants.
