Classes of the University's course of practical learning from scratch in classical Latin, divided into two semesters. Classes focused on mastering the phonological system with an emphasis on correct pronunciation, learning and consolidating the vocabulary and grammar of the language
Latin and practicing translation techniques. Classes include learning to write and grammar exercises in Latin, the ability to express thoughts in written and oral form at the level of uncomplicated statements; developing communication skills in the field of listening comprehension, creating simple oral statements, reading and translating texts in the field of basic vocabulary and general topics. The classes include lexical and grammar exercises as well as familiarizing students with elements of ancient culture and history.

Learning outcomes
After completing the course provided for in the grammar and lexical program, the student has:
Knowledge:
- the Latin alphabet;
- processed material in the form of a specific lexical resource (words, phrases, idioms, useful sentences and other fragments of speech);
- basic concepts of descriptive grammar at the basic level to the extent necessary to understand simple Latin texts and their translation;
Skills:
- recognition and reading of words and simple sentences written in Latin;
- writing and orally formulating simple sentences in English Latin;
- reading and understanding simple written and spoken statements or sentences;
- translation into Polish Polish of simple written and spoken statements or sentences;
- identifying parts of speech and parts of a sentence in the spoken or written statement;
- justifying the use of grammatical forms in the interpreted text
- correct reading of original Latin texts
- correct application of the rules of Latin grammar and inflection
- translations of simple Latin texts into Polish polish
Competences:
- understanding the need for lifelong learning of foreign languages;
- belief in the importance of knowledge of Latin as the basis of most modern European languages;
- understanding the role of the knowledge of Latin in learning and understanding the ancient and post-ancient world.
Assessment criteria
The degree of achievement of the assumed learning outcomes will be assessed through:
- control of attendance during classes
- continuous assessment (ongoing preparation for classes and activity)
- mid-term written control tests
- final written test
- final oral test
