Methodological lecture: lingusitics 3600-7-WO4-PMJ2
The course aims at discussing various linguistic theories and methodologies. Attention will be paid to comparison of alternative methodologies with respect to research subject and goals, preliminary assumptions, linguistic sources and methods of collecting them, formulating hypotheses and conclusions, which will be illustrated with analyses of the chosen research problems. The students will become sensitive and will pay attention to distinguishing between linguistic facts and their interpretation dependent on the metalanguage of a given model, initial assumptions as to employed concepts and systems of categorization, as well as dependent on the basic assumption as to what language is and what linguistics’ goals are.
