Introduction to Turkology 3600-7-TU1-WT
The purpose of the course is to acquaint the students with the basic knowledge in the field of Turkology, as the branch of Oriental studies. The course will be divided in three parts:
1) terminology problems; the fields and subjects of Turkology studies; Turkic languages, their classification and distribution; script systems; ethnogenesis and the distribution of Turkic peoples, short history of old Turkish peoples, their beliefs.
2) the history of oriental and Turkic studies in Poland and in the world; the history of Polish Turkology; main research centers and researchers in Poland and in the world.
3) contemporary fields and subjects of Turkology, methods of research; the material acquaints with archives, bibliographies, encyclopaedias and dictionaries; fields of literature and language studies, history, anthropology, political and social studies.

Knowledge:
o has basic knowledge of the place and importance of Oriental studies in the humanities and their specificity in relation to the subject and methodology [K_W01]
