Translation 3600-7-SI4-TS2
The course prepares the student for work as translator and introduce interpreting. The syllabus includes:
1. Translations of authentic texts across the genres of business communication, law, technology, bureaucracy and politics, journalism (Polish-Chinese, Chinese-Polish)
2. Consecutive interpreting (Polish-Chinese, Chinese-Polish)
3. Introduction to simultaneous interpreting
4. Development of translator’s tools and skills
The lecturer uses authentic texts and arranges situations simulating real-life interpreting environment. In addition to practical translation activities, the students learn about the specificity of translation and interpreting, the accepted norms and conventions, the translator’s behaviour.

Knowledge:
K_W02: Has extended knowledge on selected topics in Chinese culture (as for language and socio-political issues) in a comparative perspective
K_W04: Has extended knowlegde on Chinese culture
K_W09: Has deep knowledge on rules of Communications, Whiting and Reading In a contemporary Chinese language
K_W10: Has extended knowledge on China’s structures and social relations as well as socio-cultural behavior in a scope enabling professional verbal socio and intercultural communication.
Skills:
K_U02: can indicate sources of cultural variety of countries in the East, also basing on primary sources
K_U03: can develop abilities enabling the pursuing of professional career
K_U05: can apply acquired knowledge in the field of oriental studies in solving problems related to cultural differences arising in professional situations
K_U08: can read, analyse and interpret advanced texts in the field of culture (movie, newspapers, social writing) and correctly place these text in a cultural context
K_U16: can professionally behave, verbally react and assist in communication and negotiations in a selected socio-cultural context of certain Chinese language area
K_U19: has high ability to formulate own opinions and conclusions in polish and Chinese languages
K_U21: can fluently avail oneself of advanced electronic and Internet tools using polish and Chinese languages
Social competences:
K_K01: understands the need of constant learning, can inspire and manage other people’s learning process
K_K06: in conscious of differences arising from cultural, religious and philosophical variety as well as from its impact on development of social and political attitudes and economic processes
K_K10: actively act for mutual understanding and efficient intercultural communication, cultural and economic exchange, personal contacts in China
K_K12: can avail oneself of cultural and language competences in professional situations
Assessment criteria
Attendance compulsory. Student needs to work systematically, actively participate in class, including translating and interpreting. Student is assessed basing on skills and material taught during the entire course. Grade after test at the end of the first and second semester, final exam (written and oral) after three semesters.
