Introduction to the culture (thoughts and literature) of China based on a selection of texts written in classic Chinese in the pre-imperial and imperial era. Classes conducted with the use of a a textbook, and later with the use of selected texts. The texts relate to such areas as: philosophy, politics, society, poetry.

K_W13 is aware of the complex nature of Chinese, its place and significance in the context of the culture and history of China, Taiwan and the Chinese civilization circle
K_W15 has a basic knowledge of the principles of translation from Chinese to Polish
K_W19 knows and understands the basic methods of analysis and interpretation of various cultural products appropriate to the native traditions of China.
K_U07 knows how to compare and see the relationships between selected literary texts and other works of cultural creativity of China and the Chinese language circle (film, press, social literature), and issues of tradition and modernity
K_U10 can indicate the most important intellectual issues, dilemmas, aesthetic preferences formulated within the culture of China and the Chinese civilization circle
K_U13 can analyze and interpret source texts in Chinese
K_U14 can translate literary texts / literature from Chinese into Polish
K_U16 can fluently use the classical Chinese writing system and tools for learning and analyzing it (traditional and electronic dictionaries, lexicons, language corpora, databases, etc.)
K_K05 is aware of cultural diversity and its religious, philosophical, moral and historical sources and its importance for understanding the modern world
K_K07 is aware of the importance of Chinese culture in world culture
Assessment criteria
Attendance obligatory. Students are required to prepare texts before classes, take part in classroom reading, translation and discussion.
written test after the first and the second semester
the permissible number of unexcused absences - three per semester. Exceeding the number of unexcused absences results in failing the semester
