Reading Chinese texts 3600-7-SI3-LTS2
The aim of the course is to deepen the students' knowledge of Chinese literature, culture, religion, history, and language. It is also designed to expand their specialized vocabulary associated with these disciplines. Moreover, the course aims to prepare participants for a career as a translator.
Class activities involve familiarizing students with the relevant context and preparing and translating a specific specialized text from Chinese into Polish.
If necessary, classes may be conducted remotely using Google tools such as Docs and Meet.
First, students familiarize themselves with the information necessary to understand the text by reading relevant materials in Polish or English. After discussing the key issues related to the text, students are assigned a Chinese text to prepare and translate; the resulting Polish translation then serves as the basis for further discussion.
This course structure allows students not only to train their translation skills but also to learn how to conduct the research required for the accurate translation and interpretation of specialized texts. Furthermore, they will acquire essential specialized vocabulary in Chinese and English—and potentially in Polish as well.
An additional outcome of the course is that students will gain deeper insight into selected topics within the aforementioned disciplines.
