Reading Chinese texts 3600-7-SI3-LTCH1
The aim of the text reading exercises is to improve the translation skills of third-year students and
to deepen their knowledge of the specificity of contemporary Chinese written language on the basis
of selected texts on current Chinese issues (newspaper articles, reports, short stories), in particular
with the linguistic structures, grammatical constructions and vocabulary typical of various types of
Chinese texts, as well as to indicate methods for the proper interpretation and translation of these
texts.
The class consists in translating selected texts from the textbooks: 《讀報學華語 II》Learning
Chinese with Newspaper II and 《臺灣現代短篇小說選 (一)》Contemporary Short Stories from
Taiwan (I). The texts should be prepared before class. After translating and discussing the given
text, there will be exercises to consolidate the newly learnt vocabulary. Paper materials are required
