Chinese language and culture 3600-7-SI3-JKCH1
1. Standard Course HSK 4 is intended for students who have completed 110 hours of study and mastered the 600 words included in the HSK levels 1, 2, and 3 syllabus. Each lesson in the textbook introduces an average of 30–35 new words and 5 language points with explanations.
2. At this level, the course expands in terms of difficulty, depth, and content. Each lesson includes additional sections: “Compare” (i.e., contrastive analysis of language points), “Extension” (related words), and “Culture”.
3. Each lesson is divided into seven parts: warm-up, texts (with new vocabulary), explanations (including “Compare” and “Answer questions based on the text”), exercises, extension, application, and culture. The first three texts are independent dialogues, and the next two are short narrative texts.
1. Warm-up. This section includes activities such as surveys, answering questions, describing pictures, etc. These usually require student collaboration and are intended to introduce the lesson topic and prepare the groundwork for new content.
2. Texts. The topics of the texts cover 20 themes such as love, friendship, job hunting, health, and more, each serving as the theme for one of the 20 lessons. Each lesson includes three independent dialogues and two independent narrative texts. Each dialogue or text explores five subtopics related to the main theme, helping students develop paragraph-level expression skills. The dialogues include three turns of speech but are longer and more challenging than in previous levels. The first narrative text is between 150 and 170 words, and the second between 170 and 190 words, creating a progressive increase in length and difficulty. Each text introduces an average of 6 new words.
3. Explanations. Each dialogue or narrative text includes the explanation of one language point, presented in the form of “explanation + examples,” organized to be clear, concise, and easy to learn. Each text includes one grammar point and three related exercises, which require students to complete sentences or dialogues, helping check and reinforce their understanding. The “more practice, less theory” approach is emphasized. Additionally, there are exercises in word differentiation and comprehension questions to assess basic understanding of the text.
4. Exercises. These follow the explanation section and come in two formats: “retell in your own words” and “fill in the blanks with appropriate words,” aimed at enhancing vocabulary and paragraph expression skills.
5. Culture. The purpose of this section is to familiarize students with Chinese culture. In each lesson, a cultural aspect related to the theme is presented using both text and illustrations.
