Proseminary 3600-7-SI2-P1
The course is designed to prepare the student to write a thesis (bachelor's thesis) at all stages of the process. This task will be accomplished in the first phase by theoretical discussion of the methodological conditions of the thesis, in the second phase by the students' use of the acquired knowledge.
Students will acquire knowledge about the development of knowledge and science, scientific writing in the broadest sense;
They will become acquainted with the types of scientific papers, the methodology of writing scientific papers; they will learn how to search and appropriately select sources for a scientific paper, how to prepare a plan for a scientific paper and a grant application or a conference submission, a conference lecture and a scientific article; they will learn how to edit a scientific paper (quoting source texts, creating footnotes, the thematic scope of fixed elements of a paper: introduction, conclusion) and how to write a scientific paper on their own.

K_W17 - knows the state of research in chosen aspects pertaining to China Taiwan and Chinese cultural circle
K_W20 - knows and understands the basic terms and rules of copyright and protection of intellectual property;
K_U01 - search for, analyse, evaluate and use information from different sources;
K_U11 - has a good command of a foreign language at least at the B2 level;
K_U16 -fluently use the Chinese script and the necessary tools to learn and analyse it (traditional and electronic dictionaries, lexicons, linguistic corpora, data bases, etc.) ;
K_U18 - has the necessary skills to prepare seminar papers: can select and find sources and analyses in Chinese, knows the methodology of writing seminar papers;
K_U19 - can use basic knowledge in the scope of methodology of cultural research in a seminar paper;
K_U20 - choose and formulate a subject of a BA thesis, select and find sources in Chinese, make references to basic theoretical approaches;
K_U21 - has a skill in presenting detailed aspects within the scope of cultural issues of China in Polish and in Chinese taking into consideration the intellectual tradition of China;
K_U22 - has a skill at formulating own opinions and conclusions in writing and in speech both in Polish and Chinese;
K_U23- has the ability of substantive argumentation with the use of other authors’ views;
K_U24 - use electronic and internet tools both in Polish and Chinese;
K_U25 - communicate with specialists in the fields of academic research and in academic disciplines pertinent to the Oriental Studies – Sinology using contemporary IT technology;
K_U26 - can acquire knowledge independently and develop research skills following the research supervisor’s instructions;
K_K01 - understands the need to learn all one’s life;
K_K04 - set appropriate goals and ways to achieve them in the context of academic, professional and social activity;
K_K10 - is ready to initiate actions in favour of public interest and to think and act in an enterprising manner

In the winter semester the grade is influenced by:
-) preparation of assigned presentations and assignments including short written forms (70%)

In the summer semester, the assessment is influenced by:

The choice of literature for the credit paper depends on the student's interests.
Literature selected by the instructor to be read and discussed in class, dependent on student interest.

It is advised to read any book on techniques of writing a degree dissertation. Choosing a materials depends on interests of the students |
Term 2025Z:
It is recommended to study any textbook on writing scientific papers. For example, Jerzy Apanowicz "Metodologiczne uwarunkowania pracy naukowej". The choice of literature for the final thesis depends on the student's personal interests. |

Term 2024Z:
The classes are obligatory . The student can be absent without excuse two times during each semester. If excused absences exceed 30% the student will not receive a credit. Lateness of more than 15 minutes is treated as absence |
