Reading in Chinese Texts2 3600-7-SI2-LTCH2
Students prepare a translation of the texts indicated in the textbook, and during the classroom training the texts are once again translated and analyzed, new grammatical constructions and the use of the specific vocabulary are explained. The texts in the textbook are provided with explanations of some phrases and idioms, and also with English translations of the new words used.

Knowledge
- has detailed and organized knowledge of literature and writings of China; can name and characterize most important phenomena/trends/ literary texts/writings of China, Taiwan, and Chinese civilization circle (K_W05);
- has detailed and organized knowledge of history of China (K_W06);
- has detailed and organized knowledge of philosophy and religion of China (K_W07);
- has extensive knowledge of the Chinese language (its structure, history, script) (K_W12);
- is aware of the complex nature of the Chinese language, its place and significance in the cultural and historical context of China, Taiwan and Chinese civilization circle

Skills
- is able to read, analyze and interpret literary texts and other works of culture (film, press, social writing) of China and Chinese civilization circle and appropriately place them in their cultural context (K_U06);
- can compare and perceive interrelations between chosen literary texts and other works of culture of China and Chinese civilization circle (film, press, social writing) and the issues within the scope of tradition and modern times (K_U07);
- has a good command of Chinese at the B2 level (K_U12);
- is able to analyze and interpret source texts in Chinese (K_U13);
- is able to translate literary texts and writings from Chinese into Polish (K_U14);
- is able to interpret key terms from a culture of China through linguistic/philological analysis (K_U15);
- is able to fluently use the Chinese script and the necessary tools to learn and analyze it (traditional and electronic dictionaries, lexicons, linguistic corpora, data bases, etc.)

Social competences
- is ready to act in aid of sharing and promoting cultural and linguistic heritage of China (K_K08).
Assessment criteria
Attendance is obligatory. A maximum of Two unexplained absences is allowed. Classroom active participation, and preparation of texts required. Students are required to hand in written translations of the texts. Fall and summer semester reports based on two mid-semester written tests (written translation into Polish of the selected known texts).
