The course introduces students to the most important issues related to the geography, politics, economics, and culture of mainland China and Taiwan. The material is divided into thematic blocks covering the following topics in the summer semester:
- the functioning of state administration, administrative divisions, and the governance of society,
- the political life of China and Taiwan,
- the economic system of China,
- the demographics of China,
- national and state identity,
- the major religions of China,
- ecological issues,
- media and technology in China.

Assessment criteria
The final grade is determined by the end-of-term exam.
A prerequisite for sitting the exam is also the submission of a mid-semester essay, as well as the submission of reading reports in accordance with the schedule established by the lecturer.
Both the mid-semester and end-of-semester assessments may be written in Polish or English.
The use of generative artificial intelligence tools is strictly prohibited in the
preparation of any written coursework, including essays, presentations, and papers.
A total prohibition on electronic devices applies to the final exam. The use of any unauthorized aids, including artificial intelligence tools, is considered a violation of academic integrity. If the use of unauthorized aids is detected, the exam or assessment is immediately terminated, and a failing grade is assigned.
