Religion and society in Asia and Africa: Religious rites, practices and restrictions 3600-7-RAABI4-RRPR
A survey of main religious rites, rituals and restrictions applied on the basis of the practiced religion will be provided on the selected examples with focus on Buddhism and Islam including detailed description of religious norms of Islamic practice (prayer, fasting, pilgrimage, alms giving), restrictions and orders relating to customs and social life.
Students will be familiarized with Buddhist practices of Theravada, Mahayana and Vajrayana orders (including ritual dance cham, ritual gcod etc.)

the graduate has a firm grasp of the impact of religion on society, in particular in the field of law, religious conflicts, interreligious dialogue, religious rites and practices, art and religious symbols
the graduate is able to analyze and assess the impact of religion on society, in particular in the field of law, religious conflicts, interreligious dialogue, religious rites and practices, art and religious symbols;
formulate his/her own opinions and conclusions in English in spoken and written form at least on the B2+ level;
conduct a dialogue about dissimilarity resulting from cultural, religious and philosophical diversity and its impact on the shaping of social and political attitudes and economic processes;
appreciating value of his own tradition and cultural heritage the graduate is ready to enrich them with knowledge about different religious worldviews of Asia and Africa.
