Specialisation course 3600-7-KO4-PS(Z)1
The subject of classes is the Korean theatre and drama art, which developed in the first decades of the 20th century. The subject presents the process of the birth of modern Korean theatre enabling to designate main functions of a play, which were verified at the beginning of the new century, as a result of rapid historical, social, and cultural, transformations. Define a new role of the theatre and the Korean drama allowed to determine their new artistic identity. The main aim of the course is presentation of the most significant achievements of theatre, detailed description of its main trends and esthetic metamorphosis. There were outlined accompanying non-artistic phenomena and mutual links between various aspects of life: social and artistic, collective and individual, public and private. The development of modern theatre and Korean drama was inseparably connected with historic, social, and cultural process, which imposed specific artistic patterns and made from art the carrier of social content, the area of collective and individual experiencing national dramas, the spokesman of interests of individual circles, and the artistic manifestation of urgent social problems. The Korean theatre evolved directly from the political and social realities. On the other hand, it turned out to be the hostage of its time, not only reflecting the era, but also creating it in fields of ideology, education, and entertainment. Dramatic involvement of Korean theatre in trends of collective life and its entangling in historic, political, and cultural processes shaped the essence of developing Korean theatre.
