Term 2024Z:
This course will address a wide range of tragic historical issues, presented in South Korean books for young readers, including the problem of military prostitution during the Japanese occupation of Korea, the atomic attack on Hiroshima and Nagasaki, the Cheju and Kwangju massacres as well as the events of fratricidal Korean War. Throughout the course students will read selected books by South Korean writers, such as Chang Kyǒng-sǒn and Kwǒn Yun-dǒk, and analyze different ways of exposing the traumatic past. |
