M.A. Seminar 3600-7-KM5-SD2(L)
Seminar is aimed at writing M.A, thesis on a topic chosen by the students. The main focus of the seminar will be placed on the research methodology and acquiring by students skills in carrying out research and describing their results (choise of literature, technicalities of writing M.A. thesis etc). The main theme od the seminar are selected topics of the Intercultural Communication, mainly interpersonal and mass communication in the regions of Asia and Africa.
Seminars are organized in the system of tutoring. Work with a student is organized towards his/her specific needs and the topic of the M.A. thesis.
Research activity will include reading sources on the M.A. subject matter and different texts of culture connected with it. All students will be obliged to present their results based on research on the chosen subject.

has in-depth detailed knowledge (including terminology, theory and methodology) in the field of linguistics or history or socio-political issues or intercultural communication
has extended and ordered knowledge about selected cultural problems of Asian and African countries (in the field of culture and literature or philosophy and religion or history and socio-political issues) in a comparative perspective
has extended knowledge about selected cultural problems of the selected Asian and African region
has detailed knowledge about the state of research in the field of selected issues of intercultural communication regarding Asian and African cultures and about research centers in Poland and in the world )
knows and understands the native scientific tradition (methods of analysis, interpretation and evaluation) regarding intercultural communication
has an orientation in the contemporary cultural life of the selected region
knows and understands the principles of copyright and intellectual property management
Skills: graduate
can search, analyze, evaluate and use information from various sources and formulate critical courts on their basis
knows how to independently acquire knowledge and broaden research skills, as well as develop skills enabling him to achieve a professional career
can use the knowledge of intercultural communication to expand knowledge of the humanities
can analyze and interpret cultural texts (film, press, literature, social literature) of selected regions, correctly placing them in the cultural context
knows how to compare and thoroughly analyze the relationships between selected cultural texts (film, press, social literature) of selected regions and issues of tradition and modernity
can carry out a critical analysis and interpretation of various cultural products of a selected region in a manner appropriate for selected traditions, theories and research schools in the field of intercultural communication using original approaches taking into account knowledge of oriental studies
can choose and formulate the subject of the MA thesis, select and find sources for intercultural communication, refer to various theoretical approaches, as well as other sources
Assessment criteria
Assessment of a written essay based on the student's ability to formulate a research thesis, select arguments and source texts, and draw appropriate research conclusions.
The basis for getting credit, apart from presenting in writing the results of individual stages of the written work, is the oral presentation in English of a paper on the student's research findings.
