Theoretical issues of communication 3600-7-KM4-TK(Z)
The aim of the course is a broad introduction to theoretical issues of
communication. The course will present main theoretical models of communication, starting from the so-called process school, through structuralism, semiology and empirical studies, to the analysis of thefuncion of
ideology in the meaning.
The course will provide the participants with basic theoretical tools to analyse acts of communication, that in turn will help them to able to participate more consciously in cross-cultural communication.

Knowledge: student
- has in-depth knowledge on the terminology and theory of cross-cultural communication
- has theoretical knowledge on methods of analyses, interpretation and evaluation of different
kinds of communication
Skills: student
- can use knowledge about theory of communication to widen his/her knowledge in humanities
- can use knowledge about theory of communication in solving problems related to cultural
differentiation in professional situations
- can apply critical analyses and interpretation of different products of culture applying original
methods based on knowledge of theory of communication.
Competences: student
- is open to cultural differences
- is aware of differences of methods of communication in different cultures.
Assessment criteria
The grade of the written exam based on the knowledge acquired during the lectures and from recommended reading. In case written exam in classroom is impossible, the exam will be oral and take place on-line.
