International relations of Asia and Africa, taking into account the history of areas - lectures and workshops 3600-7-KM4-SZAAH(Z)
As part of the course, students will be provided with knowledge on selected issues from the history of macroregions: Africa, the Middle East and the Far East, and on issues related to international relations in these regions.
Characteristics of the regions will be presented from the angle of international relations (including geographic, ethnic, cultural, economic and political conditions that affect international relations in the regions).
Part of the course will be devoted to issues related to colonialism, its consequences for regions and the issues of decolonization.
The next part of the course will be devoted to international organizations in the regions and related ideas (pan-Africanism, pan-Islamism, etc.).
Another set of issues are issues related to the relations of macroregions with states and actors from outside the regions discussed, and the involvement of these external participants in international politics.
Attention will also be given to region-specific problems, such as famines, poverty and bad governance in Africa or fundamentalist movements in the Middle East, and how to prevent these problems.
Other topics to be discussed will be international conflicts in these regions and methods of restoring and keeping peace. Another group of topics will concern nation-building issues and the role of elites in the politics of regional states.
In exceptional cases, resulting, for example, from the need to connect with an invited lecturer, classes may be held online.
