Classical Texts in Japanese 3600-7-JA4-TZK1
Aim of the course is to improve reading comprehesion and translation skills of the students working on Japanese texts of classical literature. The course analyzes various styles of writing, problems of translation equivalence, examples of texts that are dificult to translate due to cultural differences. Working on the deep understanding and translation of these texts offers an opportunity to discuss the phenomena happening in Japanese literature over the recent years.

Students can read, translate and make analysis in grammar, semantic, style and ethnological aspects of the literature texts. And also can judge their own translation on the base of variety of theory of literary interpretation.

Examples of Japanenese classical literature of different genres, for example:
– setsuwa – Uji shūi monogatari, Shasekishū et al.
– kyōgen – Busu, Onigawara et al.
– uta monogatari – Ise monogatari,
– popular literature of Edo period – Nise monogatari,
– and also waka poetry, zuihitsu, monogatari or Noh theatre, chosen together with the participants.
