Japanese Writing 3600-7-JA3-PJ(Z)
In the course of study, students learn about the correct stroke order of characters, their meaning, etymology, readings (Sino-Japanese -
‘on’ and Japanese - ‘kun’), example words and phrases, homonyms etc. The exercises are designed to convert the sentences written in
the Hepburn transliteration system into Japanese kanji and kana characters and to read properly different kind of texts – in newspapers,
book and others.

Learning outcomes
After completing the course, the student:
KNOWLEDGE:
- has extensive knowledge of Japanese language (its structure, history, script) [K-W12]
- is aware of the complex nature of Japanese language, its place and significance in the cultural and historical context of Japan [K-W13]
- is aware of the linguistic variety and its influence on the cultural and political situation of the world [K-W14]
- has rudimentary knowledge of translation rules from Japanese language into Polish [K-W15]
SKILLS:
- can read, analyze and interpret literary texts and other works of culture (film, press, social writing) of Japan and appropriately place them
in their cultural context [K-U06]
- can fluently use the Japanese writing system and tools for learning and analyzing it (traditional and electronic dictionaries, lexicons,
language corpora, databases, etc.) using the ideograms from the current year of study [K-U16]
- can properly function in the linguistic and cultural environment of Japan [K-U17]
