Reading Class for Source Texts 3600-7-IR4-TZ1
An academic course dealing with chosen source texts based on criteria set by the tutor. It will be important texts of the Iranian cultural area’s written legacy from the oldest times up to our contemporary era. Thus it will include texts in many different languages used in Iran throughout centuries that will be dealt with both in texts’ original language and Polish or English and even Persian translation. Nevertheless, New Persian texts will be prevailing. In any case a short presentation of the given text in context of its contemporary written heritage will take place and reading of short fragments thereof both original and in translation will follow with students’ active participation. Students are supposed to prepare the texts for discussion at the class in order to support the tutor in achieving the task. The texts should help students in understanding different phenomena of the Iranian culture and civilization.

- has detailed knowledge pertaining to the state of research on chosen issues related to Iran as well as in-depth

- knows and understands the local academic tradition (methods of analysis, interpretation and evaluation) in the context of Iran
- demonstrates a good knowledge of contemporary cultural life in Iran
- has genuine knowledge of rules of communication, writing and reading in Persian
- can indicate sources of cultural differences between different regions of the Orient or Africa, also on the basis of source materials
- can use the terminology from the domain of religion of Iran to analyze and interpret religious phenomena, ethical
motives and social behaviour, as well as cultural differences
- can read, analyze and interpret advanced literary texts and other works of culture (film, press, social writing) of Iran and
appropriately place them in their cultural context
- can compare and thoroughly analyze interrelations between selected literary texts and other works of culture (film, press, social
writing) of Iran, and the issues of tradition and modernity
- can carry out a critical analysis and interpretation of different products of the culture of Iran appropriate to a selected
tradition, theory and research schools within the scope of studies on literature, language, culture and religion employing a unique attitude
of Oriental studies
- can evaluate, select and describe most important products of contemporary culture in Iran
- can select and translate into Polish most valuable literary works/writings of Iran
- has a good command of Persian at an advanced level
- can actively cooperate and work in a group as well as forge relationships and build social relations
- has awareness of the differences stemming from the cultural, religious and philosophical variety and their influence on shaping
social and political attitudes as well as economic processes
- understands and appreciates the value of tradition and cultural heritage of one’s own country and of Iran
- can see the need to enrich one’s own tradition by adding positive philosophical, social and cultural values of Iran, treats
cultural synergy as an added value
Assessment criteria
- attendance control;
- continuous assessment (up-to-date knowledge of the subject, active attendance);
- final oral assessment.
