Persian language and culture of Iran 3600-7-IR4-JPKI(L)
FULL DESCRIPTION OF THE SUBJECT: This upper intermediate Persian course is aimed at developing individual ability to expand vocabulary and complex syntactic structures. The course assumes training students in recognition and usage of language nuances and expanding mastered semantic fields in Persian language. The course enables students to extend and refine the knowledge of Persian language and the ability to express orally and in writing the language utterance on intermediate level (the stress is placed on usage of phraseology like idioms and collocation). The course is designed to master comprehensive communication skills in listening and speaking according to vocabulary of the media, science, philosophical and religious discourse, culture, literature and fine arts. Further mastering of Persian colloquial language and development of ta'arof skills is included. Basic skills of translation and interpreting.
Term 2023L:
An academic practical Persian course on advanced level. The course is focused on extension and enhancing vocabulary and complex syntactic structures. Speaking automatically and expressing oneself in writing with a grade appropriate span of text complexity with a special stress on phraseology (i.e. idioms and proverbs) and further developing various communication skills including listening and comprehension, speaking, reading and writing with regard to general and special topics and vocabulary including various aspects of social life and some other topics of human sciences especially those specific to Iran would be the main teaching goal. Simple texts belonging to the Iranian contemporary fiction and non-fiction, as well as texts featuring the professional press and media idiom. Also giving simple descriptions both static (things, people, environment) and dynamic (actions, states and situations) by students are still essential. Further learning of colloquial Persian including more complex addressing forms and expressions is to be continued. |

Assessment criteria
ASSESSMENT METHODS AND CRITERIA:
Ms. Hediye Yazdan Panah’s classes:
- attendance control (student is eligible for 2 unexcused absences, any further absence results in not qualifying for the final examination);
- continuous assessment (homeworks, class activity, current preparation for classes);
-evaluation will be on the basis of their ability on presenting and analysing journalistic materials throughout the course.
Classified assessment after each semester. Final oral exam in the presence of all the teachers involved in the Persian language course after two semesters. Students are admitted to the final oral exam only after passing final oral assessment.
At the end of the semester each teacher grades their class separately and informs student (through the USOS web mail) what grade he/she has obtained. Final grade is the arithmetic mean of all Persian Language classes.
