Persian Language and Culture of Iran 3600-7-IR2-JPiKI(Z)
Classes within a university-level practical course of the Persian language including elements of Iranian culture at an intermediate level. The course focuses primarily on expanding vocabulary, consolidating and correcting proper pronunciation, and maximising language drills. It aims to reinforce speech fluency and the ability to express thoughts in writing at a moderately complex level, with an emphasis on the use of phraseology (idioms).The course reinforces communication skills in listening comprehension and speaking, incorporating general vocabulary and topics. It introduces simple contemporary literary and non-literary texts, including the language of the media.Furthermore, the course continues to develop the ability to formulate moderately complex static descriptions (objects, people, surroundings) and dynamic descriptions (activities, states, and situations). It also introduces elements of colloquial language and polite phrases. Applied calligraphy is introduced to an extended degree in order to further develop the ability to write and read handwriting and artistic calligraphy correctly and quickly.

Knowledge:
-The student:Has knowledge of the Persian language (its structure, history, and script) within the scope provided by the curriculum, as well as basic knowledge of a second oriental language (Dari, Pashto, Arabic, Turkish, or Hebrew).
-Is aware of the complex nature of the Persian language and its place and significance in the context of the culture and history of Iran and Afghanistan.
-Is aware of linguistic diversity and its impact on the cultural and political situation of the world.Has basic knowledge of the principles of translation from Persian into Polish.
Skills:The student:
-Uses the Persian language at the level specified in the curriculum (pre-intermediate level).
-Can translate simple literary texts and writings from Persian into Polish.
-Can proficiently use the writing system and the tools for its study and analysis (traditional and electronic dictionaries, lexicons, language databases, etc.).
-Can function correctly in the linguistic and cultural environment of Iran and Afghanistan.Has the ability to formulate opinions and conclusions in both spoken and written forms in Polish and Persian.
-Can use electronic and internet tools in Polish, and to a basic degree in Persian.
Social Competences: The student:
-Understands the need for lifelong learning.
-Can cooperate and work in a team, establish contacts, and build social relationships.Is aware of cultural distinctiveness and its religious, philosophical, customary, and historical sources, as well as its significance for understanding the contemporary world.
-Recognises the need for conducting intercultural dialogue.Is aware of the significance of the culture of Iran, Afghanistan, and other countries of Asia and Africa within world culture.
Assessment criteria
Oral exam / Written exam / Project / Continuous in-class assessment
At the end of the semester, the instructor awards a grade and informs the student via university email. The final grade for the course Persian Language and Iranian Culture is the arithmetic mean of the grades obtained from all classes taught by individual instructors.
