FULL DESCRIPTION OF THE SUBJECT: Classes within the university Arabic language course as a second Oriental language for Iranian Studies students at the beginner level. The classes are mainly focused on the basics of Arabic grammar for beginners. The grammar course is supported by examples and exercises which enhance understanding the rules and the most important paradigms occurring in the Arabic language. Vocabulary is limited to the essential range necessary for understanding simple messages. Students develop the ability to express their thoughts through less complex statements, with an emphasis on clarity and simplicity of communication. The course also introduces the reading of simple contemporary texts of a general nature, as well as pronunciation rules used in Modern Standard Arabic.

LEARNING OUTCOMES:
KNOWLEDGE. Upon completion of the course provided in the curriculum, the student:
- has extensive knowledge of the Persian language (its structure, history, and script), as well as basic knowledge of a second Oriental language (Dari/Pashto/Turkish/Hindi/Hebrew/Arabic) [K_W12];
- is aware of the complex nature of the second Oriental language , its place, and its significance in the context of the culture and history of Iran and Afghanistan [K_W13];
- is aware of linguistic diversity and its impact on the cultural and political situation of the world [K_W14].
SKILLS. Upon completion of the course provided in the curriculum, the student is able to:
- use the Persian language at a lower-intermediate level and a second Oriental language (Dari/Pashto/Turkish/Hindi/Hebrew/Arabic) at a basic level [K_U12].
COMPETENCES. Upon completion of the course provided in the curriculum, the student:
- understands the need for lifelong learning [K_K01];
- recognizes the importance of intercultural dialogue [K_K06].

ASSESSMENT METHODS AND CRITERIA:
