Knowledge of Persian Language 1 3600-7-IR1-WJP(Z)
The course presents the key features of descriptive Persian grammar, covering its phonetics, morphology, syntax, word formation, and spelling rules. It also discusses the typological and genealogical classification of the language, highlighting its place among the world’s languages. The course provides an introduction to the history and successive stages of development of the Persian language. An essential component of the course is familiarization with the writing system. The course provides a solid foundation for further study of the language, culture, and history of the Iranian world.

Learning outcomes
Upon completion of the course, students will have an advanced understanding of:
- the structure of the Persian language, its history, and its script, as well as its significance in the context
of the culture and history of the Iranian region
- the principles of translation from Persian into Polish.
Will be able to:
- translate literary texts from Persian into Polish.
- use the Persian writing system (apply standard spelling rules) and tools for its study and analysis (traditional and electronic dictionaries, lexicons, language corpora, databases, etc.) at an advanced level.
Will be ready to:
- work to make the cultural and linguistic heritage of the Iranian world accessible and promote it.

Attendance at lectures is mandatory.
Eligibility for the exam is based on attendance.
Two unexcused absences are permitted per semester (4 class hours out of 30 class hours; 1 class hour = 45 minutes).
