Classes within a university-level practical course of standard Persian from scratch, including elements of Iranian culture. The course focuses primarily on mastering the phonological system with an emphasis on correct pronunciation and maximising language drills. The classes cover script learning and exercises in the Persian alphabet.The course aims to develop speech fluency and the ability to express thoughts in writing at a basic level. It focuses on building communication skills in listening comprehension and speaking, incorporating general vocabulary and topics.Students develop the ability to use various types of utterances appropriate to the situation:Providing information.Obtaining information (asking questions).Refusing to provide information.Setting tasks and defining goals.Formulating simple static descriptions (objects, people, surroundings).Formulating dynamic descriptions (activities, states, and situations).The course also includes basic training in calligraphy.

Learning outcomes
Knowledge: the graduate knows and understands:
-The structure, history and writing of the Persian language to an advanced degree, as well as its significance in the context of the culture and history of the Iranian world region (K_W08).
-The principles of translation from Persian into Polish (K_W09).
Skills: the graduate can:
-Read and interpret literary texts and other cultural works (film, press, social writings) of the Iranian world, properly placing them in a cultural context, as well as analyse, compare and identify the relationships between them and the issues of tradition and modernity (K_U04).
-Analyse and interpret source texts in the Persian language (K_U08).
-Translate literary texts and writings from Persian into Polish (K_U09).
-Use the writing system to an advanced degree (applying the rules of standard orthography) of the Persian language, and utilise tools for its study and analysis, such as traditional and electronic dictionaries, lexicons, language corpora, databases, etc. (K_U10).
-Present cultural issues of the Iranian world in both Polish and Persian, taking into account the intellectual tradition of the Iranian world (K_U13).
-Utilise electronic and internet tools (K_U14).
-Cooperate and work in a team, establish contacts with representatives of different cultures, and engage in intercultural dialogue (K_U17).
Social Competences: the graduate is ready to:
-Act towards making accessible and promoting the cultural and linguistic heritage of the Iranian world (K_K04).
Assessment criteria
Oral exam / Written exam / Project / Continuous in-class assessmentAt the end of the semester, the instructor awards a grade and informs the student via university email. The final grade for the course Persian Language and Iranian Culture is the arithmetic mean of the grades obtained from all classes taught by individual instructors.
